AllSaints Runway – Live Streaming

The project

We’ve worked with AllSaints since 2022, bringing their bi-annual new collection runway shows to a global audience through live streaming to their YouTube channel.

Their spring/summer 2024 runway show was held at the Grade II-listed Kingsway Tram Tunnel, which is the only one of its kind in Britain and served as a unique backdrop for both the live stream and the event photography.

Live streaming

Ahead of the event, our Project Manager and Head of Production carried out a comprehensive site visit to better understand the challenges that this unique venue would present.

The out-of-action Union Street tram station has been used as a base for storing materials for tube maintenance, meaning power and internet were not available on-site. Finding a solution for this was our biggest priority, and challenge.

Securing a robust internet solution that worked underground was the biggest challenge of this project. We explored a number of bonded cellular solutions and tested a selection during our numerous site visits. We decided to work with the Dejero Gateway, a blended internet router that allowed us to use six 4G modems to create a single fast 4G internet connection.

The power supply was covered by Humpries AV who were contracted to supply AV and lighting. We worked closely with them to agree on a lighting design and sequence that would work optimally for the in-person runway show, as well as for our camera feed into the live stream.

The day before the live event, we went to the venue to set up the cameras and live stream equipment which included three Sony FX6, one Sony FR7 and the Portable Production Unit with vMix. We also ran a full suite of pre-broadcast checks, internet tests, and hardware compatibility tests and ran a full technical event rehearsal.

Our team on the event day consisted of a Production Manager, a Live Streaming Engineer with vMix set up on the Portable Production Unit, a Director who called the show and two Camera Operators manning a four-camera set-up. We had a full redundancy set up on hardware, which was rigged and ready in order to have a short switchover in case of failure of any equipment.

The footage from the four cameras was vision mixed and broadcast to AllSaints’ YouTube channel and the footage was edited post-event for a full runway show video output distributed as part of their press release.

Photography

Working off a brief provided by AllSaints, our event photographer took shots of each of the runway looks. Post-event, they edited and colour-graded 100 images for delivery within 24 hours.

Result

“We’ve worked with AllSaints across their last three runway shows where they showcase their new collections to VIPs & press in some unique settings. From Village Underground, Spitalfields Market and now the Kingsway Tram Tunnel, which presented an even greater challenge than the first two venues. We embraced the challenge and found the right partner in Dejero to provide the internet solution to facilitate the live stream part of the show. We’re immensely proud of what we produced from a visual perspective and felt like we helped AllSaints showcase their collection to a wider audience who couldn’t be there on the day.”
